What is a CSA?

A CSA (Community Shared Agriculture) is a partnership between a farm and its community. CSA members pay a fee at the start of the growing season, which supports fair wages for farmers, ecological growing practices, and the cost of seeds, equipment and growing infrastructure.

In return, CSA members receive a weekly share of delicious, fresh and diverse crops on the farm, which are delivered to weekly pick-up locations in Guelph, Mississauga, Cambridge and Milton.

A CSA is a great way to support a sustainable food system, reduce food waste, participate in community, and have a closer relationship with what you are eating.

How it works

As a CSA member, you will receive:

  • A weekly selection of seven freshly harvested types of veggies. We offer a curated ‘farmer’s choice’ each week, but you can also customize your selection each week based on your preferences.

  • A newsletter that will be emailed out a few days in advance of each weekly pickup, with information on what veggies will be included in your share, recipe suggestions, and farm updates.

  • A ‘vegetable guide’, which includes crop-specific information on how to store produce so that it lasts, as well as cooking tips. See an example here.

  • The ability to purchase add-ons for any week, in case you want extra veggies. We are also starting to expand to offer fresh-cut flowers and fruit (including raspberries, blackberries, currants and grapes), which are available as an add-on purchase for CSA members only!
An example of a CSA share in November: spinach, garlic, mizuna, shallots, winter squash, napa cabbage and leeks.
An example of a CSA share in September: green beans, heritage tomatoes, summer squash, garlic, lacinato kale, parsley and a bag of baby salad mix.

What our members are saying:

Mary Ngo

“This experience was fantastic. It was a total win-win to both support local, as well as to receive such fresh, gorgeous produce at the same time. The best part for me was that it pulled me out of my usual produce rut and got me excited to see previews of what was coming and come up with fun meal plans accordingly each week!”

Julie Read

“This was an amazing experience! We were blown away by the quality, incredible taste and variety of produce we received each week! The farm fresh produce contributed to months of creativity and trying out new recipes in the kitchen. I especially enjoyed finding new favourite vegetables to fall in love with, like Delicata squash. Wow!! I miss our CSA box and I’m already looking to next year!”

Emma & Danielle

“We loved our first experience being a CSA member! The variety offered was interesting and different, we enjoyed trying so many new things. Feeling a connection to the food we ate and supporting local farming was really special to us and we can’t wait to support the farm for many more seasons to come.”

FAQ’s

What if there is a vegetable I don’t eat?

We use a software program called GrownBy that allows you to customize your CSA shares. Each week you will receive an email a few days before your pick-up with a link to make any swaps to your weekly selection.

What if I’m away for a week?

You can either have a friend pick up your box for you, pick up your box at the farm another day that week, or receive 7 credits for purchasing ‘add-ons’ at another time (limited to once per season). A week’s notice via email is necessary for making these adjustments. Overall, we want you to get your veggies and will be as accommodating as possible!

What if I want more than 7 items in my share?

For folks who want a larger share, there will be available items that can be purchased as add-ons for any week.

How long is the CSA?

The full CSA is 30 weeks and runs from May until early December.

Are payment plans available?

Yes. If the full upfront cost presents a financial barrier, please be in touch! We offer monthly payment plans.
