Orach

Also called “false spinach”, “French spinach”, and “beautiful lady”, the orach is an ancient vegetable consumed in Europe since the Middle Ages.

How to Store:

Orach greens store longest when dry. Ideally, you could wash/dry them in a salad spinner, and then either store in a sealed bag or container in your fridge.

Recipe Suggestions:

Orach greens have a taste similar to spinach and can be eaten like spinach, preferably raw if you want to enjoy its beautiful red color. Orach has a slightly salty flavour, and doesn’t require excessive seasoning. Try adding into salads, or even using as a salad base instead of lettuce. Try sauteeing it on the stove with some garlic and lemon for an easy side dish. It can be added to almost every dish, such as omeletes, pastas, flatbreads, fresh rolls, curries and more! Orach is a fun vegetable to get creative with!

When eating raw, pull the individual leaves off the stem and use them like baby spinach leaves. When cooking, feel free to throw the whole plant in or chop up both the leaves and stems.
